Seals are 2 and OHHHHHHHH!
Seals!
We won our meet today! Northampton is a great team who has only lost a handful of meets in many years. Many of their coaches and swimmers also swim for a year-round US team in the same pool, so they have a huge advantage in our league that practices 10 weeks out of the entire year. Today was extremely successful. We have a lot to work on this week to improve and bring down our DQ rate. We are two dual meets down, and three dual meets left to go before our big Divisional Meet on 6/17 at Klein Oak HS.
For those that aren’t familiar with how our season works, we have dual meets, mid-season invitational meets (must qualify for), Divisionals, and lastly post-season invitationals (must qualify for). You will see these qualifying times in the results attached from today. The most important meet of the season, is our Divisional swim meet. We swim against the other teams in our division at one big meet (minus Coles Crossing, they are out of our division). Please do everything you can to make sure you plan on being at that meet all day…we need all the points we can get here!
Check out our mid-season invitationals on the team calendar (Spring Sizzler and Pentathlon). If you want to attend one of both of these, you can select your events as you qualify. Once we get closer, we will begin collecting money. It’s usually around $5/event. This money goes towards many things including the use of the indoor pool and air conditioning in the facility. The Pentathlon meet will be a meet you RSVP for since you must swim all events. You are ranked by all times added together.
Trinity and Ponderosa are our post-season inviationals that you also must qualify for. Same details as above, but we are actually the co-hosting team of Trinity. Which means we want to have a large representation of our team here in swimmers and volunteers. It takes place at the CISD Natatorium behind Woodforest Stadium in Shenandoah.
I only bring these up now because these meets always seem to creep up on us, and I don’t want anyone to be surprised or feel left out because they didn’t know what these events are. Take notice of the dates of all of them, they are on Sundays and Mondays. Links with details for each meet should be on our calendar.
These mid-season invites are really used for those swimmers that just want to swim an extra meet because they are drinking the swim-team Kool-Aid now, or they are very close to qualifying for Trinity and Ponderosa and need the extra opportunity to hack at it.
Bask in the glory of our win boys and girls, Monday we will be back to the grind, with more emails asking you to select events for next weekend’s HOME MEET (finally) against Windrose. But I won’t mention to sign up for your events and leave notes in the RSVP section just yet, we just had a swim meet…..wait what?
Will have summer practice times posted sometime tomorrow night or early Monday morning. I'm working the night-shift this weekend so I'm staring at results all night (yes...complete nerd...) taking care of our administrative things and that's on the list!
Still waiting on NWAL (sigh) to fix a few things before we update the Team Records to make sure everyone is included...there are a bunch!
Let me know if you have any questions.
See you at the pool.
Brandon
